Bilt Hamber Auto-Clay Soft 200g – Award-Winning Clay Bar
Smooth as glass, effortlessly. Auto-Clay lifts iron particles from paintwork and leaves the paint as smooth as glass. Bilt Hamber bars are designed to effortlessly restore the factory smooth finish to paint finishes, and have received critical acclaim in the detailing industry for being the most durable, cost-effective and well-designed clay bars available today.
Auto Express Best Clay Bar, year after year. Auto Express magazine has awarded Auto-Clay its Best Clay Bar Award every year for five years running. In one test comparing clay cloths to clay bars, they concluded that bars were better, and that Auto-Clay was the pick of the bunch once again.
Soft is for paint in good condition. If the paint is in good condition, if you like to clay your vehicle frequently, or if the weather is cold, use Soft. All clay bars become firmer when cold and softer when warm. For paint in reasonable condition choose Auto-Clay Medium, for heavy contamination or hot weather choose Auto-Clay Regular, or get all three in the Clay Bars Kit 600g.
Why use a clay bar? Assess the degree of embedded metallic and brake dust debris that has entered the surface of your paint film by gently rubbing the paint with your fingertips, and feel for the grittiness these damaging particles impart. Auto-Clay effortlessly removes these particles, leaving the paint glass-smooth, and discolouring road film is gently lifted too. Claying makes a world of difference when lubricated with plenty of water and hardly any pressure – the bar glides like an ice hockey puck and is pleasant and satisfying to use. Not only does the paint feel and look a lot better once clayed, but the next stages of paint care progress far more smoothly, as cleansers, waxes and polishes glide across the surface far more easily.
Pre-treat with Korrosol. It is highly recommended that before using a clay bar the paint is pre-treated with Korrosol Fallout Remover. This high-activity cleaner removes embedded metallic particles in a simple spray-on, rinse-off action, so the Auto-Clay bar lasts longer and concentrates its action on the remaining contamination.
How to Use
- Check the paint. Run your fingers over freshly washed and dried paintwork. A rough, gritty texture is caused by embedded particles – bonnets are often the most contaminated.
- Prepare. Thoroughly wash the car to remove any loose dirt. Keep the car out of direct sunlight; it's best if the work area is relatively cool, but not cold.
- Lubricate. Mist clean tap water over a small area (2–3 square feet) using a plant mister. Keep the surface thoroughly wetted – Auto-Clay must not be used dry.
- Clay. Rub the bar back and forth with light pressure; properly lubricated clay glides like an ice hockey puck on ice. At first you will hear the bar pulling particles away from the paint – keep moving until the noise and friction disappear.
- Check and wipe. Feel the area with your fingertips and keep going until all contamination is gone, then wipe off the clay residue with a soft terrycloth towel. Work in small areas.
Pro tip: a reddish-brown residue on the bar is exactly what you want to see. As the bar becomes soiled, fold it over, squash it out and keep going. Never use the bar if it has been dropped on the ground, inside or out. One bar is good for about four or five cleans on an average-sized car. Once the paint is clean, apply Double Speed Wax or your chosen protection immediately.
